the more loving one

Reading this particular stanza just choked me up (in a good way!), from W.H. Auden’s love poem to the stars and the universe, The More Loving One:

“How should we like it were the stars

to burn

With a passion for us we could

not return?

If equal affection cannot be,

Let the more loving one be me.”
